Planting Instructions:
- Seed Preparation: For best results, start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost. Soak seeds in warm water for 12-24 hours to enhance germination.
- Soil Preparation: Use a well-draining seed starting mix. Fill seed trays or small pots with the soil mix, ensuring good aeration and moisture retention.
- Sowing: Plant seeds about 1/4 inch deep. Cover lightly with soil and mist with water. Maintain a consistent temperature of 80-90°F (27-32°C) for optimal germination.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use a spray bottle to gently mist the soil surface to avoid disturbing the seeds.
- Light: Provide 14-16 hours of bright light daily using grow lights or place in a sunny window. Carolina Reapers need strong light for healthy growth.
- Transplanting: Once seedlings have at least two sets of true leaves and outdoor temperatures are consistently above 60°F (16°C), transplant them into larger pots or directly into the garden, spacing them 18-24 inches apart.
Care Tips:
- Watering: Water regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but not saturated. Mulch around the base of the plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during the growing season to support vigorous growth and fruit production.
- Pruning: Prune plants to remove any weak or crowded branches, allowing better air circulation and light penetration.
- Pest Control: Monitor for common pests such as aphids and spider mites. Use organic insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary.
