Planting Instructions:

  1. Direct Sowing: Sow seeds directly in the garden after the last frost date when the soil has warmed to at least 60°F (16°C).
  2. Sowing Depth: Plant seeds 1 inch deep and 3-4 inches apart in rows, or around trellises or supports, spacing rows 24-36 inches apart.
  3. Support Structures: Use stakes, trellises, or a bean teepee to support the climbing vines. Ensure structures are sturdy and in place at planting time.
  4. Soil Preparation: Pole beans prefer well-drained, fertile soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.8. Enrich the soil with organic compost for best results.
  5. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and pod development, but avoid waterlogging.
  6. Thinning: Thin seedlings to 6-8 inches apart if they are too crowded, ensuring adequate space for each plant to climb and thrive.
  7. Care: Mulch around the plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Apply a balanced organic fertilizer as needed.
  8. Harvesting: Pick beans when they are young and tender, about 4-6 inches long. Regular harvesting encourages continuous production.
